I. GAME OVERVIEW
The objective of Equilibrium is to build a tall, interlocking structural matrix on an unstable base without triggering a collapse.
Equilibrium supports Solo, Collaborative, and Competitive modes. While collaborative and solo play encourage custom house rules, this rulebook details the core mechanics and official competitive standards.
II. Core Benefits
Wellness:
Training Focus: A perfect "desk break" to reset your mind between meetings.
3D Modeling in Mind: Sharpen spatial reasoning for kids and adults alike.
Hand-Eye Coordination: Translating a mental plan into a delicate physical placement.
Social Bonding & Team Building: Collaborative modes foster communication and shared triumph as teams work together to solve the "puzzle" of an increasingly unstable tower.
Education:
Dynamic Physics Experience: A hands-on lesson in center of mass and rotational inertia.
Tactical Thinking: Planning your moves to trap your opponents in an unstable "Danger Zone".
III. GAME COMPONENTS
- Polycubes (24–28 pieces): Modular 3D shapes formed by joined unit cubes, divided into 4 distinct colors.
- Base: A semi-spherical housing that carries the structure and rotates freely under shifting loads (available in smooth or faceted configurations).
- Interface Plate: A dual-sided mechanical disc that snaps into the Base which sets two configurations:
- Side A (Inclined-Mode): Features 45° rotated ridges for angled, non-orthogonal stacking.
- Side B (Vertical-Mode): A flat surface for classic vertical balancing.
- Anchor Slots: Recessed slots on the Interface Plate designed to lock initial Polycubes into place.
- Playmat (Optional): A soft surface mat that dampens Base movement to adjust difficulty.
IV. SETUP
- Assemble the Base: Insert the Interface Plate into the Base bowl. Choose Side A (Inclined) or Side B (Vertical). Place the Base on a flat surface (or on the Playmat for smoother movement).
- Place the Anchors: Place starting Polycubes into the Anchor Slots on the Interface Plate. This creates the foundation structure.
- Distribute Polycubes: Choose one of two draft methods:
- Open Draft (Tactical): Each player takes all polycubes of a single color. Keep your supply visible.
NOTE: if playing with fewer than 4 players, divide remaining pieces randomly equally - Blind Draw (Random): Keep all Polycubes in the bag. On their turn, a player draws the first piece (a respective player’s colour) they touch at the top of the bag without digging.
NOTE: if playing with fewer than 4 players, pull the remaining pieces randomly).
V. CORE MECHANICS
Players take turns in clockwise order placing one Polycube onto the structure.
Minor Displacement vs. Major Collapse
- Minor Fall (1 to 3 Pieces): If 3 or fewer Polycubes fall off during your turn, you must collect them and add them to your personal supply. The round continues.
NOTE: If the piece you just placed falls, you must place it back
- Major Collapse (4+ Pieces): If 4 or more Polycubes fall down, a Major Collapse occurs. The round ends immediately.
NOTE: Threshold of collapse criteria (4+) can be changed.
Passing a Turn
- Once per round, a player may elect to Pass (skip placing a piece).
VI. COMPETITIVE MODE
Objective
Be the first to place all Polycubes from your hand, or force your opponents into a structural collapse!
Round Flow
- When a player successfully places their final Polycube, they immediately earn +2 points and step back from the round.
- The round does not end when the first player finishes. The remaining players continue taking turns.
- Every subsequent player who successfully empties their hand earns +1 point.
Round End Conditions
A round ends immediately when:
- Last Player Remaining: Only one player has Polycubes left in their hand.
- Major Collapse: A player causes 4 or more Polycubes to fall.
Winning the game
Play the agreed number of rounds (e.g., 4 rounds). The player with the highest total score at the end of the final round wins!
